The Lotus Group grew out of Joe Cohen's obsession with coaxing highly refined sound from high end hi fi systems – an obsession that has not slackened since the beginning.

"I began building my own cables in the late eighties, experimenting with various designs and getting better results than commercial cables currently available. One time a friend came by with a very large diameter wire constructed entirely from bundles of litz wire. This cable completely obliterated all preconceptions I had held up to that time as to the magnitude of influence cables could have on the behavior of high-resolution systems. It, however, was a one-off design and not available for purchase. I didn’t have another such revelatory experience until I encountered cables made in Japan by a company called TRI – no longer in existence. Their designs were unique in that they avoided synthetic materials where possible and used a multi-layered approach to counteract the effects of noise and vibration. I was so impressed I became the US importer.

I spent a fair amount of time with the designer, burrowing into the heart of his concepts, developing a deep sense of his view of cable design and learning about vibration control and the protection of equipment from the degrading influence of noise.

The sound was natural, lacking glare and harshness and rich with information. These qualities became my touchstone when I began designing PranaWire cables. I was determined to use what I had heard and learned and to expand these qualities to the maximum extent possible. 

We continually endeavor to push back the boundaries of the possible. Our latest reference cables, the Nirvana Series, are beyond what we previously thought possible. By keeping our focus on maximizing the delivery of signal and minimizing the impact of noise and vibrations we create products that simply get out of the way of the incoming signal, protecting it from the massive complexity of interactions with the system and its environment. Due to the complex nature of our designs, it is impossible for them to be built by machine. All PranaWire cables are built from the inside out by hand."


PranaWire, made its CES/The Show debut in January of 2003. The Lotus Group began as it is today in 2005 with the importation of the inestimable Japanese brands, Oyaide and Acrolink. Since then we have had the good fortune to add Hanss Acoustics turntables, electronics and accessories, Acoustic Revive, fo.Q 21st Century damping materials and accessories, and Audio Replas, highly exotic audio accessories to our lineup. 

In 2009-10 we worked closely with Manny LaCarrubba, one of the world's most highly skilled loudspeaker designers to develop the Granada and the G2 open baffle, 2 and 3 way actively dsp crossed over loudspeakers, which were released to great acclaim. We use the Granada loudspeaker to test all of our cable designs, but also use the Wilson Alexx to test their validity in a more conventional setting.

 In 2010, as a result of debuting the Granada Loudspeaker at CES, we had the great good fortune to meet and partner with Steve McCormack of SMc Audio, a legend and leading light in the design of electronic components. Being in the presence of and working with such highly talented individuals has been humbling and enlivening, and has contributed greatly to the evolution of our understanding of and appreciation for what goes into the making of a great system.
Over the years we have worked hard to evolve our PranaWire offerings both in terms of their performance and their appearance. More recently we have released the following:
  • Sukhavati Series of Cables, which we believe will become the standard of ultimate achievement in the realm of cabling
  • Linebacker Sovereign, XE and Linebacker SE in-line passive power filters with our unique and exclusive pure silver Super Enhanced Ground Plane - a multi-layered, powerful noise absorbing extension of the ground plane which can benefit all manner of high fi components
  • The Vajra SE, Kensho III and Cosmos power cables
  • The Cosmos Supreme pure silver power cable
  • The Photon USB cable which received a Brutus Product of the Year Award from David Robinson - editor of Positive Feedback Magazine. 

All PranaWire and Lotus Group products are hand assembled in our Northern California workshop. Each item produced is thoroughly inspected, tested and pre-conditioned before being shipped. We continually develop new techniques and refine old ones in order to create the very best products we are capable of producing. High level performance and customer satisfaction are foremost in our priorities.
